Caravaggio & Bernini – A Revolution in the Arts
15 October 2019 – 19 January 2020
The painter Caravaggio and the sculptor Gianlorenzo Bernini are among the Old Masters whose popularity has never waned to this day.
The groundbreaking achievements of these two artists are the focal point of the exhibition, underscored by selected artworks by contemporaries including Nicholas Poussin, Orazio Gentileschi, Alessandro Algardi and Simon Vouet. Driven by the momentum of the early Baroque period they travelled to Rome from all over Europe, inspired by the radical artistic innovations of the day. Some sixty key works, featuring paintings and sculptures alike, will showcase the revolutionary and innovative art of the early 17th century: fascinating works packed with drama, intense passion, a strong dynamic, and a theatricality filled with vibrant colours.
